Qualification Overview
This qualification is ideal for anyone in a supervisory, team leader or managerial role. Subjects covered include understanding the requirements for health, safety and welfare in the workplace, the benefits of using a safety management system, the principles of risk assessment, and understanding the risks and control methods for common workplace hazards.
Aim of Qualification
The Level 3 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace is aimed at supervisors, managers, team leaders as well as individuals wishing to advance their health and safety knowledge.
Intended Audience
The qualification is intended for learners already working in the capacity of supervisor, manager or team leader and also those who are preparing to start work at this level. Persons gaining this qualification will know that supervisors, managers and team leaders have legal and moral obligations to ensure health and safety within a business, and that this includes obligations to employees, contractors, visitors and suppliers. Its syllabus areas are regarded by the Health and Safety Executive as being important to developing and maintaining safe working procedures in the workplace.
Duration of Course
This qualification is usually obtained by taking a 3-day classroom-based course. However, it can also be achieved through a variety of other methods including blended and distance learning, as long as the recommended learning hours are completed. For example, completing a quiz book (6 to 8 hours) followed by a two-day classroom-based course.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

Qualification Assessment
This can be done by either of the following two options:
Option 1 � Multiple-Choice Assessment
Learners must answer a series of multiple-choice questions across the breadth of the course syllabus within a 2-hour time frame.
Option 2 � Open Response Assessment
Learners must provide a short response to questions across the breadth of the course syllabus throughout the duration of the course.
