Qualification Overview
This qualification is designed to educate Learners in the principles of safer manual handling. It outlines the reasons for safer manual handling and the legal requirements. It will help the Learner to understand how risk assessments can improve safety and how to reduce the risk of harm.
Aim of Qualification
The aim of the qualification is to help Learners understand the principles of safer manual handling so they can apply what they learn to their working environment and make their practices safer.
Intended Audience
This qualification is suitable for all employees to raise their awareness of the risks of unsafe manual handling practices and for people who may have to carry out manual handling as part of their job, e.g. handling deliveries, parcels and boxes. It is suitable:
To raise awareness about the importance of safe manual handling
As an introduction to those starting work that may involve manual handling
For those returning to work that may involve manual handling
As safety refresher training
Please Note: This qualification is a theory based qualification. Learners who need practical training should complete QA Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (QCF).
Duration of Course
The minimum contact teaching time that this qualification should be delivered in is 3 hours excluding breaks due to the practical nature of the course. Courses are generally delivered over half a day.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent. Learners must be at least 14 years old prior to registration.
Requalification Requirements
It is recommended that training is refreshed every 3 years.

Qualification Assessment
Formative assessments � a range of informal assessment procedures employed by the Trainer/Assessor during the learning process to measure each Learner�s knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria
Theoretical Assessment � this consists of a 15 multiple choice written question paper.
