Qualification Overview

This qualification is based on the HSE training standard for delivery of First Aid at Work
courses for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

Aim of Qualification

The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies
needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations. Learners should be able to
demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency
situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider.

Intended Audience

The qualification is designed for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in
voluntary and community activities, to provide First Aid when dealing with an emergency
situation.

Duration of Course

The minimum contact teaching time that this qualification should be delivered in is 6 hours
excluding breaks due to the practical nature of the course. Courses are generally delivered
over 1 day.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but in order to benefit from the learning, learners
should possess communication skills sufficient to allow them to address the assessment
requirements of the qualifications.

Requalification Requirements

This QA Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work is valid for a period of 3 years, within
which time the learner will need to re-take the course and the assessments in order to remain
qualified. It is also recommended that learners undertake an annual refresher on the main
points of First Aid, however this is not mandatory and does not form part of the a QCF unit or
qualification.

Qualification Assessment

Practical Assessment � this is observed by the trainer throughout the course. The learner
must demonstrate competency in the following practice assessments

CPR Assessment
Unconscious Casualty Assessment
Wounds and Bleeding Assessment

Theoretical Assessment � this consists of a 20 multiple choice written question paper.

Additional Qualifications

The following additional QCF qualifications can be completed at the same time as the QA
Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (QCF) Qualification, this help employer to save
both time money with additional training requirements and costs.

Level 2 Award in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and
Automated External Defibrillation (QCF) 2 hours per candidate
